RIDGELAND — Social media posts this past week claiming that Ridgeland immigration attorney Assma A. Ali had been appointed a Ridgeland Municipal Court judge are unfounded.
Posts that began circulating around Aug. 5-6 announced Ali’s appointment, with supporters calling her the first Yemeni-American Muslim woman who wears a hijab to serve as a judge in the United States. The posts, which have since been deleted, said Ali would continue practicing immigration law while serving on the municipal bench.
By Aug. 9, the original posts had been deleted, and accounts online reported that Ridgeland officials and aldermen denied any such appointment or knowledge of a judicial vacancy…
