HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County will launch a new Autism Awareness and Acceptance Bumper Sticker Initiative to encourage patience, understanding and safer interactions with people who have autism.
The free sticker reads, “Please Be Patient, Allow Extra Time to Respond.” County officials said some people with autism may communicate, process information or respond differently when they interact with law enforcement, first responders, court workers and other members of the community.
The Hinds County Board of Supervisors, Sheriff’s Office, Tax Collector, Tax Assessor, Constables, Justice Court Judges and Circuit Clerk are all involved in the initiative.
“This initiative is about making Hinds County a community where awareness leads to understanding and understanding leads to better interactions,” said Hinds County Board of Supervisors President Robert Graham, District 1. “Something as simple as giving a person a little more time to process and respond can make an important difference.”…
