Shaq’s Big Chicken Jackson State debut is officially official. The fast-casual chain just made HBCU history in the process. Big Chicken, the celebrity-backed restaurant founded by Shaquille O’Neal, opened inside the Jackson State University Student Center this month. It’s the first time the brand has landed on a historically Black college or university campus.
The Ribbon-Cutting and What Comes Next
JSU held a ribbon-cutting on Friday, September 18. Free samples went out to students and guests who came through the Legacy Food Court. The restaurant fully opens to students, staff and the general public on Tuesday, September 22. Because the location sits in a public-facing part of campus, it won’t just serve the JSU community.
