Water authority bill could redirect Jackson’s sanitation funds to cover bond debt

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A bill creating an authority to take over Jackson’s water system once the third-party manager leaves also would allow a portion of the city’s sanitation fees to go to cover the authority’s debt.

Last week, the House approved H.B. 1677, the Metro Jackson Water Authority Act.

The bill would create an independent group governed by a nine-member panel to take control of Jackson’s water system once the federal takeover ends, likely in 2027…
