JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes, Ward 3, said the city needs to do more to protect children.
Stokes wants to extend the city’s already existing youth curfew ordinance. City leaders enacted or discussed several youth curfews over the past five years, and the current curfew is expected to expire in September 2026.

The councilman wants to bring in Jackson’s new police chief, Dr. RaShall Brackney, into the discussion.
“We have police officers who say they tried to take the young people home, and there’s no parents at home. They’re raising themselves. If we can document this activity, then we need to get the state of Mississippi involved. We cannot allow children to raise themselves. They will make a bad decisions,” Stokes said…
