Hinds County Sheriff’s Office concerned about ‘switches’

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said deputies will work to address gun violence and crack down on machine gun conversion devices.

According to Jones, one of the growing dangers deputies encounter is the presence of machine gun conversion kits, also known as “switches.” The devices illegally convert firearms into fully automatic weapons.

“The possession and use of these devices will continue to be aggressively prioritized by our deputies and investigative teams. Individuals found with these dangerous platforms will be held fully accountable for all applicable state and federal violations. There is zero tolerance for them in Hinds County,” the sheriff said.

On Thursday, Jones said deputies recovered a firearm equipped with a conversion device during a traffic stop. The individual, who has not been identified, was arrested on multiple charges.

“HCSO will continue to work tirelessly to remove illegal weapons from our streets, protect our residents, and ensure those who endanger our community face the consequences of their actions,” stated Jones.
