JSU students express concerns over housing

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson State University (JSU) students are concerned about campus housing, specifically at the Walthall Lofts. The temporary housing assignment will close to JSU students.

“Starting at the beginning of the semester, we were informed as students who stay in the Walthall Lofts, which is an off campus residence that is co-ed, that it would no longer be implemented with the school’s leisure. It will no longer be in a housing facility. And that we would have to, after we move, give our keys back. And that would no longer be an option,” said Nia Williams, a JSU student.

She said the lofts started leasing to members of the public, leaving many students feeling uneasy.

“It baffles me that they would even allow that to happen, especially since they’re not out of the contract quite yet. And it’s uncomfortable to say the least, because at the end of the day, it’s just in and out. It’s a lot of movement, it’s a lot of noise, it’s a lot of ruckus. And I feel like the safety of the students should be prioritized regardless,” Williams stated…
