Governor on water authority board: ‘City has proven they do not need majority control’

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Gov. Tate Reeves stands behind his decision signing a controversial water authority bill into law, saying Jackson has proven it doesn’t need majority control on the board.

“In 2022, when I signed an emergency declaration to take over the water system from the city… I think it was proof to the people of the city of Jackson, they were not capable of running the system at the time,” he said.

Last week, Reeves signed H.B. 1677, the Metro Jackson Water Authority Act, into law…
