After rounds of storms and rain last week, Mississippi enjoyed a pleasant weekend and a sunny start to the week, but by mid-week, chances of rain return with the possibility of severe storms producing damaging winds, large hail and a small chance of tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service, Jackson will start the week with sunny skies and a high temperature near 80 degrees on Monday, May 4, and Hattiesburg is expected to see the same. Sunny skies are expected in Oxford with a high near 79 and Starkville will see a high of about 80.
Chances of storms begin to creep into Mississippi on Tuesday, May 5, with the northwest portion of the state, including Oxford, under a Marginal Risk, or Level 1 severe weather threat of a possible five.
