JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – As prices for everyday necessities continue to rise, employees at local pawn shops said more people are turning to them for quick cash.
Employees said customers are coming in to sell items or take out short-term loans to cover expenses like gas, bills and medicine.
At Jackson Jewelry and Pawn, manager Rebecca Holifield said loan activity has more than doubled compared to last year, leaving the business short on storage space.

“We would actually be running out of things instead of running over with things,” said Holifield. “We’re running out of storage space because we have so many loans lately. It’s increased probably a little over double than what it was a year ago.”…
