JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Community activist Brittney Bowman said a South Jackson apartment complex has become an eyesore for the capital city, as well as a haven for crime. Chapel Ridge Apartments has been closed for about a year.
“My plea to the city or to the property owner, potentially, or the new prospective property owner is to either put a gate here to stop the inflow of traffic or let’s probably seek to demolishing the property. But something has to be done,” Bowman said.
What is the impact of the eyesores in Jackson?
She said there are more than 250 blighted properties in South Jackson alone. While community partners have cleaned the Chapel Ridge property before, Bowman said the complex’s current condition makes it hard to look at.
The City of Jackson is working to tackle the city’s eyesores by targeting the Terry Road area, which will take place over the summer. Bowman said with the right cleanup efforts, Chapel Ridge could become a beautiful addition to South Jackson.
