Much-needed rain and flood concerns
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hey Jacksonville! We’re about to see a stretch of very active weather, and The Weather Authority is here to keep you in the know. Over the next several days, heavy rain is in the forecast for our area, with totals pushing up to 4 to 5 inches in some spots. Localized flooding, especially along the coast, is possible with these rounds of rain—so keep an eye out for slick roads and ponding.
If you’ve been hoping for a break from our drought, this is some really encouraging news. Right now, much of the region is under “extreme to exceptional” drought conditions, so this rain is expected to chip away at our rainfall deficit. Just remember: some neighborhoods could see heavier downpours than others.
Rain, heat, and temperature outlook
This morning started off mild, right around 74 degrees, but temperatures are expected to climb to near 90 by mid-afternoon for a lot of us. As the rain becomes more consistent, you can look for temperatures to dip back below average, sliding into the mid and even low 80s as we head into next week.
The heaviest rain is forecast from today through Wednesday, with rain chances sticking between 60% and 80% into the weekend. These showers will be spotty—you’ll get breaks at times, but don’t be surprised if you have to move your plans indoors for a bit. No severe weather is expected right now, but gusty winds and some lightning could happen with the heavier showers. Just stay weather-aware and have a backup plan when heading outside…
