Ship Repair USA session to examine barge launch using floating dry dock

Marine Log’s Ship Repair USA conference, set for June 23-24 in Jacksonville, Fla., will include a session examining the execution of a barge launch using a floating dry dock.

Titled “From Shop to Water: Executing a Barge Launch via Floating Dry Dock,” the presentation will be led by Marshall Greenland, general manager, and Myles Murphy, dry dock and commercial vessel operations manager, both of Boston Harbor Shipyard & Marina (BHSM) in East Boston, Mass.

The session will highlight a recent multi-barge roll-on operation completed at the shipyard using its 500-ton floating dry dock Providence. The project involved launching 115- by 30-foot barges, each weighing approximately 120 tons, that were fabricated to serve as docks at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s ferry terminal in Hingham…
