Texas Indian Street Food Star Storms St. Johns With 160 Dishes

Texas-born fast-casual concept Desi Chowrastha has officially landed in St. Johns, opening its first Florida location this week at the Shops at Racetrack Road. The new spot blends counter service and live-kitchen stations with an in-house grocery and halal-meat counter, aiming to cater both to long-time South Asian residents and local diners curious about regional Indian specialties. Company materials and local filings indicate the St. Johns restaurant is a sizable build-out that anchors the chain’s push into the Southeast.

According to Jacksonville Business Journal, the St. Johns store opens with a menu described as having more than 160 items, and the brand pitches itself as recreating “the cultural experience of traditional Indian gathering spots” for migrant and resident communities. The chain’s own website similarly presents Desi Chowrastha as a hybrid eatery-and-market, highlighting Irani chai, biryani, snacks and regional sweets as core draws.
