Jersey City Council mulls measure asking comptroller to probe Fulop admin’s finances

The Jersey City Council reviewed a measure asking the New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller to audit their finances during the latter years of the Mayor Steven Fulop administration during’s yesterday’s five-and-a-hour caucus meeting.

Councilman at-Large Rolando Lavarro said he sponsored the non-binding resolution with Ward C Councilman Tom Zuppa.

“As you know, all of us who’ve received inquiries and demands that, after learning about the $255 million budget deficit, that we investigate these matters and hold people accountable for the fiscal crisis that we are in currently,” Lavarro explained.

He added that he felt this was a superior option to establishing a council investigative committee since the depth and scope of what is required goes beyond what this particular governing body is capable of…
