Severe weather risk & excessive heat warnings across New York including New York City & Long Island

Excessive Heat Warnings Next 4 Days Record Highs Possible

Today begins the excessive heat that has been so well advertised for days. Overnight we had an upper trough move through and parts of the area from the Hudson Valley to Long Island had thunderstorms roll by before daybreak. That only adds to the humidity and now we will see excessive heat. Warnings are posted from Maine to Virginia west to the Ohio Valley so everyone from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, & New England will see highs today reach the mid to upper 90s today. Sunshine will be abundant and humidity levels will be quite high so it will likely feel as if it is over 100 degrees today.

Due to the structure of the upper ridge over the Middle Atlantic states, we have upper air disturbances from the Plains moving over the top of that ridge in the Northern Great Lakes and then they drop southeastward through New York State and New England. The next such upper trough is due to arrive late this afternoon and evening so we do run the risk of all that daytime heating contributing to thunderstorms developing late this afternoon and evening.
