NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – A 2025 candidate for public advocate allegedly tried to defraud the city out of $1 million in public matching funds, and now she’s facing federal charges.
Angela Aquino was arrested on Thursday and charged with wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Aquino raised over $130,000, but ended her public advocate campaign before Election Day, city records show.
Prosecutors accused the 47-year-old woman of a “months-long” effort to obtain $1 million from the Campaign Finance Board, which matches small-dollar donations for New York City candidates…
