KALAMAZOO, MI — Volunteers handed out new tents and doughnuts as people packed up to vacate a homeless encampment on either side of North Edwards Street.
About 72 hours earlier, police and city officials notified the people living in tents and makeshift shelters that they would have to leave by 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13.
