PORTAGE, Mich. — A Massachusetts man will be spending the next 3-20 years behind bars for stealing thousands of dollars from senior citizens in Portage.
In October, the FBI notified the Portage Department of Public Safety about a nationwide organized crime ring targeting seniors and defrauding them of large amounts of money.
Investigators say the victim, of Portage, had already lost more than $600,000 over several months after they were persuaded to withdraw the money and give it to a courier at home or in public, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety.
