KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 21-year-old man was arrested in Kalamazoo for illegal weapons possession on Wednesday.
Members of the Crime Reduction Team (CRT) conducted an investigation into illegal weapons possession at Interfaith Homes.

CRT members corroborated information that a 21-year-old man was in possession of a gun; since he is currently on parole, he is not legally allowed to possess a gun, law enforcement officials said in a release.
Investigators contacted the 21-year-old man, identified as Shelbi Johnson of Kalamazoo, who immediately attempted to flee on foot and discard the gun, which was in a backpack.
Johnson was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, and investigators secured the backpack with the gun as evidence.
