KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo City leaders approved several contracts for rail crossing work as crews are in the middle of preparing Kalamazoo Avenue to turn into a two way road.

The city’s Public Services Director, James Baker, says while the rail work isn’t slated to start until next year, it helps move the administrative process along. Right now, contractors are busy upgrading infrastructure that includes water mains and new traffic signals along Kalamazoo Avenue.
In a few weeks, Baker says drivers can expect construction to shift onto the left lane on Kalamazoo Avenue while construction crews do their own work towards Edwards Street.
“Anytime we’re dealing with a railroad, the railroad has a lot of concern about safety and signal integration and everything like that,” he said. “So, we’ve got to make sure we get everything in place before we’re ready to actually do the work and be ready so that we can bring those railroad crossings online with the future 2-lane movements on chemistry.”…
