EAST LANSING — There are 60 seconds in a minute. That’s a fact that Michigan State finance professor Thomas Rimer reminded his students this week after rival Michigan’s controversial win over Western Michigan.
A Big Ten review added one second to the clock Saturday, Sept. 5, after Western Michigan broke up a Hail Mary that would have sealed its historic win over Michigan. With that second, the Wolverines connected on a 47-yard go-ahead touchdown to avoid the upset and win 13-12.
The veracity of the result has since been disputed by some fans, pundits and even the Mid-American Conference. Count Rimer among the detractors…
