KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Developers want to continue the momentum of a downtown Kalamazoo apartment complex with a third phase right next door.
The 400 Rose complex lines a section of south Rose Street with modern-looking 236 apartments. The next phase is set for a dirt lot across the street. Developers have a four-story, 71-unit building in mind.
The plan was presented to the Kalamazoo City Commission during a Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday. Curt Aardema with AVB said the complex would have 31 studio units, 28 one-bedroom apartments and 12 two-bedroom units.
Stocking school housing project gets initial approval
The lot where the apartment would go used to have a fire station that was converted into a training center. Operations ended in the early 2000s. Aardema said asbestos had to be removed from the facility and a house converted into an answering service location before demolition started earlier this year.
