Union City wrestling competes at Hudson Super 16 wrestling tournament

HUDSON – The Union City Charger wrestling program traveled to the prestigious Hudson Super 16 on Friday and Saturday, looking to take to the mat against some of the best in the state.

A total of 31 teams made the trip to Hudson for the two-day event, with Friday holding the “B” tournament, followed by the “A” tournament on Saturday.

Included in the field of 31 teams was the No. 1 ranked teams in both Division 3 and 4, as Dundee (Division 3) finished in first place with 209.5 points, followed by Hudson (Division 4) in second with 163 points. Other ranked teams included in the field were third place Oxford (Division 1, No. 5), fourth place Martin (D4, No. 8), fifth place St. Louis (D4, No. 2), sixth place Decatur (D4, No. 7), eighth place Manchester (D4, No. 6), and tenth place Benzie Central (D4, No. 4). Included in those ranked teams was a local squad, as the Division Four, No. 3 ranked Union City Chargers also traveled to the big stage looking to make a big mark.

Union City struggled a little during Saturday’s tournament, finishing in thirteenth place with a score of 53 points.
