Damaging, deadly tornadoes given initial ratings in Michigan

One day after multiple damaging tornadoes touched down across Southwest Michigan, initial ratings have begun being released.

Three tornadoes were given initial ratings on Saturday, one day after deadly tornadoes impacted the cities of union City, Three Rivers, Edwardsburgh and others.

The deadliest tornado in 40 years struck Union City on Friday afternoon, killing three people and injuring 12. This tornado has initially been rated as an EF3 tornado with winds of 150 mph. This is an initial rating and could be increased in the coming days, if it does reach EF4 status it would be the first EF4 tornado to take place in Michigan since the EF scale was introduced in 2007…
