KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A new grocery store at 31st and Prospect has been open for almost a week, and a community group is working to keep the neighborhood and the store safe.
United Market sits where Sun Fresh closed last summer over crime concerns. The store is owned by the city. The corner has seen crime, drugs, and a grocery store that couldn’t survive it. Now the people who know the block best are taking action, working to turn lives around and keep crime off these streets.
Gregory Parr knows this corner from the inside. He was arrested 97 times because of his behavior, panhandling and selling fake drugs, he said. Now he runs the Neighbor2Neighbor Program and is back on this corner for a different reason…
