FIFA Fan Festival prepares severe weather plan for 25,000 expected attendees

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The FIFA Fan Festival is expected to draw 25,000 people Saturday, and with a severe weather threat on the horizon, organizers say safety is the top priority.

Cristopher Carroll, Kansas City’s emergency manager, said Crown Center, the Hilton Hotel and Union Station are confirmed shelter sites. Nearby businesses could also be used if needed.

“Crown Center has allowed us to take people over there in case of severe weather. So we can shelter them in there. In the underground parking garage if it’s really severe. Just have the ability to shelter a large capacity of people,” Carroll said.
