KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) -Friday, July 31, is the last day to weigh in on what happens to the historic Bryant School, a long-vacant building at 57th and Wornall that Kansas City Public Schools has been trying to repurpose for years.
The Bryant School closed in 2009 as part of a Kansas City Public Schools “right-sizing” initiative. In 2010, the school board approved closing 30 schools to address declining enrollment. Many of those buildings have since been sold and repurposed — but the path for Bryant has proven more complicated.
The building, which dates to 1915, sits on 4 acres just west of St. Teresa’s Academy in the Countryside neighborhood, generally considered part of the larger Brookside area. The neighborhood was developed by J.C. Nichols as part of the Country Club District, with most homes built between 1908 and the 1940s.
