Flash flood warning for parts of Kansas City as downpours drench metro

A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of the Kansas City metro early Friday as thunderstorms sweep through, bringing heavy rain.

The National Weather Service issued the warning shortly after 5:10 a.m. for Johnson, southern Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties. The warning is in effect until 8:15 a.m.

At 5:10 a.m., radar indicated that heavy rains were falling from thunderstorms. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain had already fallen. With rain continuing to fall at a rate of .75 to 1.5 inches an hour, another .5 to 1 inch of rain was possible…
