Royals stadium plan clears a key Kansas City council hurdle. What happens next?

With sweeping approval from the City Council on Thursday, Kansas City officials welcomed the Royals to Crown Center and threw the city’s support behind the construction of a new stadium.

But while the council approved the deal’s framework, more details need to be ironed out. Officials also need to sign off on additional formal steps, such as issuing the bonds and setting the boundaries from which portions of tax revenue would be redirected as economic activity goes up within the area.

That means more public discussions and public hearings before all the pieces fall completely into place…
