Independence man sentenced to 19 years in Lafayette County drug trafficking case

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mo – An Independence man was sentenced in a Lafayette County drug trafficking case.

According to a release from Lafayette County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Ellis Hilbrenner, the court sentenced 35-year-old Dominique Benson to 19 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on a first-degree drug trafficking charge.

The charge stemmed from a January 20th, 2026 traffic stop that resulted in a high-speed chase. During the chase a bag containing approximately 297 grams of fentanyl was thrown from the vehicle and later recovered…
