KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Royals have found the builders for their new home.
The Royals announced a team of national and local construction heavyweights to deliver the proposed $3 billion ballpark district at Crown Center, partnering with a joint venture of Mortenson and McCownGordon as well as Kansas City-based JE Dunn.
Under the plan, the Mortenson | McCownGordon joint venture will act as construction manager at risk for a 1.25-million-square-foot, open-air stadium seating roughly 34,000 fans. JE Dunn will oversee the development of the surrounding 85-acre, live-work-play mixed-use neighborhood.
Key details of the project include:
- The stadium: A 34,000-seat, open-air ballpark spanning 1.25 million square feet at Crown Center.
- The district: An 85-acre mixed-use development featuring entertainment, retail, residential, hospitality, and public spaces — billed as the largest sports-anchored downtown development in baseball.
- Funding & partnership: Majority privately funded through a collaboration between the Royals and Hallmark Cards.
