KCK police, fire departments train for World Cup emergencies

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – With 49 days until the World Cup kicks off, Kansas City, Kansas, police and fire departments are training for worst-case scenarios as thousands of visitors prepare to travel to the metro for the tournament.

Argentina, the reigning World Champions, will base camp at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

The two agencies conducted an active shooter drill on Thursday at the abandoned Lone Star Steakhouse across the street from the soccer stadium, focusing on coordination between departments.

“It’s very chaotic, and we want to train out the chaos,” said Assistant Chief Scott Schaunaman of the Kansas City, Kan. Fire Department.
