Kansas health officials monitor 3 people exposed to cruise ship passenger infected with hantavirus

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas Department of Health is monitoring three people who were exposed to someone on the Hondius cruise ship at the center of a hantavirus outbreak.

The state says none of the patients are experiencing symptoms. Symptoms can take up to 42 days to show up.

Dr. Steve Simpson, a doctor with the University of Kansas Health System, has been an expert on hantavirus since the 1990s. He said the release from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment shows investigators are watching what is happening and taking the outbreak seriously…
