Hyroad Energy, Total Hydrogen Solutions strike deal to expand hydrogen truck fueling in Texas

What you need to know:

  • Austin-based Hyroad Energy, winner of the Nikola bankruptcy auction, is accelerating its hydrogen trucking push through a Trucking-as-a-Service (TaaS) model
  • A deal with Total Hydrogen Solutions (THS) will support a new hydrogen refueling station in Katy, Texas, backed by a full-capacity hydrogen offtake agreement for fleet demand
  • The site will include onsite hydrogen production via electrolysis and fast-fill fueling for heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell trucks, advancing scalable hydrogen infrastructure
  • Following its acquisition of 113 Nikola Tre FCEV trucks, the company is expanding services, restoring operations, and targeting hydrogen refueling growth in Texas, Southern California, and Houston

Austin, Texas–based Hyroad Energy, the winner of Nikola’s bankruptcy auction last August, is back in the news in a major way.

Today, the company, which focuses on a Trucking-as-a-Service (TaaS) model, said it is locking in fuel supply as it ramps up its hydrogen trucking push.

It has signed a commercial fueling agreement with Total Hydrogen Solutions (THS), a division of Pneumatic & Hydraulic Company LLC, to support a new hydrogen refueling station in Katy, Texas. Hyroad says it has also secured an offtake deal for the site’s full capacity, positioning it to meet growing demand from fleet customers across the state.

The station—designed, built, and operated by THS—will feature onsite hydrogen production via electrolysis and support fast-fill fueling for heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell trucks and trailers. The project caps nearly two years of collaboration between the companies, with the site expected to be fully operational later this year.
