Blake Hamilton races to gold, helping Tompkins boys track team to Class 6A state title

AUSTIN — As Blake Hamilton crossed the finish line, he ripped off his numbered bib and flipped it around for all to see. With a “1” sitting next to his name on the scoreboard high above, he displayed a simple two-word moniker that perfectly summed up how he was feeling in that euphoric moment.

“God’s Child” was written on the paper in black marker with a drawing of a cross next to it.

“I just want to let everyone know that you are God’s children,” said Hamilton, who had just blazed a gold-medal time of 19.86 seconds in the 200-meter dash. “God loves you. He loves you. He’ll do anything for you if you trust and put your faith in Him. He will treat you like a child. He’ll treat anyone like a child.”…
