HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A late-night drive turned into a major rail disruption early Saturday morning when a car ended up stranded on a set of railroad tracks in Hillsborough County, forcing officials to halt train traffic.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on June 27, 2026. A Honda Accord was traveling southbound on State Road 39 when the crash unfolded.
Troopers stated that as the vehicle approached Hunter Road, the driver lost control and veered off the roadway. The car struck several trash cans, traveled through a roadside ditch, and came to a stop directly on top of the adjacent railroad tracks.
Due to the position of the car, all rail traffic in the area had to be completely stopped. The tracks remained closed until emergency crews could safely remove the vehicle from the rails…
