HAINES CITY, Fla. — Pouring cooking oil down the drain may seem harmless, but officials say it can cause major damage to sewer systems and the environment.
Once oil is inside a sewer pipe, Haines City Public Works Superintendent Woodley Pierre says little to no water can pass through.
“So from your toilets, to your shower heads, to your kitchen sink, this is the pipe that the water flows through. So when you pour grease down and it cools down, it creates this greasy residue. Water is not able to effectively flow through,” he said…
