New arthritis surgery performed for the first time in East Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A new prosthetic thumb surgery, the first of its kind performed in East Tennessee, has given a woman the use of her thumb back. The new technique has a shorter recovery time than other types of surgery.

Scrub Technician Tammy Hall has been dealing with arthritis pain in her thumbs for 10 years. She can’t hold trays at work, can’t open bottles, can’t even grip a soda.

But after Dr. Benjamin Rogozinski with the Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic (KOC) performed the surgery, she feels like she has her life back.
