BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) – The City of Alcoa, City of Maryville and Blount County are in the early stages of acquiring the Alcoa South Plant site for development. Local officials said the deal has been in the works for years, now the property could finally change hands.
“A long time,” said Maryville City Manager Greg McClain. “At least 15 to 20 years, probably.”
Now, the Industrial Development Board could purchase around 160 acres of land around the former aluminum smelting facility.

“One of the advantages of owning this land are that the counties get to decide what gets put on there,” said Jeff Muir, the Communications Director for the Blount Partnership. “They get to the zone it the way they want to. It is heavy manufacturing, heavy industrial right now.”…
