Man pleads guilty to stealing two beehives from Sevierville senior center

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — After two hives were stolen in February from a senior activity center in Sevier County, the man charged has pleaded guilty, and the hives have been returned.

In February, My People Senior Activity Center posted that between the hours of 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13, and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 14, two beehives were taken from their grounds, located at 1220 West Main Street in Sevierville. A police report from the Sevierville Police Department shares that officers were able to identify the person responsible through video evidence.

Tennessee laws going into effect July 1

When speaking with the man, the report said he admitted to taking the hives. He was taken into custody on February 15 and charged with theft of property over $1,000. The beehives were also returned to My People Senior Activity Center, which thanked SPD for their quick action.

In June, the man then pleaded guilty to the theft charge. He was sentenced to six months of probation, given a restraining order from going on or about the premises of the bees at the senior center, and ordered to pay court costs.

At the end of his probation, his case will be dismissed, and the charge may be expunged since his case was taken under advisement. If he violates his probation or the restraining order, he will be subject to contempt of court, and he could face trial for the theft of property charge…
