Apartment projects set to return to Blount County Board of Zoning Appeals

Two apartment projects will find out if the second time is the charm.

Two projects requesting special exceptions for high density, multifamily developments will return to the Blount County Board of Zoning Appeals on Thursday at the courthouse in Maryville. Both requests for an exception were moved to the July meeting on unanimous votes after first failing to receive enough votes for passage. With a minimum three of the five BZA members in attendance in June, the requests had to receive unanimous approval from the three for a majority and failed passage on 2-1 votes while motions to deny also failed on 1-2 counts.

Bruce Damrow, Larry Chesney and Chairman Joe Everett were present for the June meeting while Brian King and Stanley Headrick were absent. The majority is determined by the number of board members not the members present at the meeting…
