KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Knoxville has produced a slew of accomplished actors who have enjoyed successful careers in television, film and theater.
John C. Cullum
A graduate of Knoxville High School, Cullum graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1953 and went on to become a Broadway mainstay. He has won two Tony Awards and was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.
Cullum also became a television regular with an extensive resume that includes an Emmy nomination for his role in the CBS drama series “Northern Exposure,” stints on “ER” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” a memorable appearance in the pilot of the iconic AMC series “Mad Men,” and spots in other notable shows like “30 Rock,” “Nurse Jackie,” and the controversial 1983 TV movie “The Day After.”

Born and raised in Knoxville, Cozart earned played college basketball and pursued his dream of playing the NBA before an injury in the NBA Summer League dashed his hopes. He made his film debut in the 1983 film “Blue Skies Again” opposite Andy Garcia and got to showcase his basketball prowess in the 1992 film “White Men Can’t Jump.”
He also made appearances in “Blue Chips,” “Conspiracy Theory,” “16 Blocks,” “Eraser,” “Three to Tango,” and “Eagle Eye.” His TV accomplishments includes appearances on “Saved by the Bell,” “Walker, Texas Ranger,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and “Living Single.”…
