FIRST ALERT: Strong storms and flooding are possible Saturday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A WVLT First Alert Weather Day has now been called for Saturday due to the threat for a few strong storms as well as localized flooding.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY SATURDAY: A Level 2 out of 5 Slight Risk has now been added for the Cumberland Plateau with a Level 1 out of 5 Marginal Risk for portions of the Valley, including Knox County. We are looking at two rounds of scattered showers and storms coming for us Saturday. Here’s the breakdown:

ROUND 1 (Saturday morning – Saturday early afternoon): Scattered rain with some heavy downpours is likely through the morning hours, especially after 8 am. This initial round of rain isn’t expected to be severe, but heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding.

The middle of the afternoon looks fairly dry with extra cloud cover and spotty showers. IF we see more sunshine during this time, the threat for severe storms will remain for the evening round…
