BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Siemens Healthineers Molecular Imaging, a healthcare company, has invested $43.6 million in its Rockford facility and plans to create more than 90 new jobs over the next five years, the state announced Wednesday morning.
This facility on Dunavant Drive is used for research, development and materials production for PET scanners, which can be used in cancer and disease research. With this investment, Siemens plans to boost production and launch new PET/CT scanner product lines.

To use a PET scanner, a patient is injected with a radiopharmaceutical. A detector captures the gamma rays emitted, and the PET/CT scanner translates these rays into images that help clinicians. The detectors are manufactured at the Rockford facility, the state said.
