Procession honors former Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Law enforcement from across East Tennessee joined a procession for former Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler.

Starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, the procession carried Spangler’s body from Mynatt Funeral Home in Powell to East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. The procession took Powell Drive to Emory Road to I-75 to I-640 to I-40 to Asheville Highway to Governor John Sevier Highway, ending at the cemetery.

At the cemetery, a graveside service was held with full military honors provided.

Spangler, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served as sheriff for eight years, died at 67 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Several state and local officials paid tribute after news of his passing broke.
