Woman’s home burns down months after neighbor’s fatal fire

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — After seeing her neighbors home catch on fire, one woman is reliving the unimaginable just a few months later, this time, it is her own home.

Two months ago, a deadly house fire broke out on Bays Mountain Road. Four houses down, Gertrude Showers is left picking up the pieces after flames destroyed her home last week.

“Two homes on fire within two months in our area. If we would not have gotten that call, we would have been two more fatalities, and I want to know what made us lose everything that we ever had and worked for,” said Showers.
