Lanes of State Route 71 to close in Sevier County during resurfacing

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — Some lanes of State Route 71, also known as US 441, are expected to close intermittently over the next two months as the Tennessee Department of Transportation does resurfacing work.

TDOT plans to close one lane of State Route 71 between the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and Dudley Creek in Gatlinburg from 7 p.m. through 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights as well as between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday through Saturday nights.

The department expects to finish resurfacing the road on June 30 or before. Closures began on Sunday.

“This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions,” a TDOT spokesperson said. “Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.”
