KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville McKay’s location closed its doors for the final time Sunday, marking the end of a decades-long era of supplying the Scruffy City with used books, music and more.
“It’s a little depressing” is how customer Eric Sriteric felt on the store’s last day of operation. He spoke to us in the remnants of McKay’s packed warehouse location on Papermill. By Sunday, the store had become much more roomier than shoppers were used to as McKay’s loaded off the last of its merchandise— at a steep discount.
“A lot of it was the stuff that would be a little harder to find normally,” Sriteric said about the books, video games and collectables that used to line shelves. “Or you’d have to like shop for it online, but you could just find it here.”…
