Stamp Out Hunger one day food drive Saturday, May 9

City residents may be surprised this week by a humble request from their local mail carrier in the form of a postcard and a plastic bag.

The Stamp Out Hunger one-day food drive takes place each year on the second Saturday of May. The idea is straightforward: Residents who are able to donate are asked to place a bag or bags of nonperishable food items beside their mailboxes ahead of their mail carrier’s Saturday run.

All donations will then be sorted by post office employees and transported to a local food bank through a partnership coordinated by the U.S. Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Because NALC represents city carriers, rural carriers may or may not choose to participate…
